more on greenbelt 2 and worship trick 77 - shed obscura

in my summer is over post on greenbelt i said that i was sure someone else would have a photo of the grace shed... sure enough they have. mark waddington who spent hours with some others building, painting and creating it has a couple of wonderful pictures.

here's the shed - it looks incredibly dramatic with the wide angle lens and the sky. you can see we painted it black, cut a hole in the side and put a lens from an old pair of glasses in it. then inside was a white wall opposite on which an image appears inverted. the connection with faith was to encourage people to think about the 'upside down' kingdom of god. they could write thoughts on that in chalk on the outside.

and here is a shot from inside the shed of what appeared on the white wall. brilliant... another crazy grace idea comes to fruition - i think it was mike who first suggested the shed obscura on a tube journey back from seeing DJ shadow or something..

The best ideas are stolen ones...Sanctus1 did a shrine obscura last year at Gb. Obscura worship is soooo 2005!!!

I don't think it was DJ shadow but I can confirm it as my idea. As for theft - is ignorance innocence? Blame Mr Pinhole.
It's nice to think we are as obscure as Sanctus1 and equally inspired.

Given that worship is a righteous life what about your many tricks encourages repentant living? It seems every stunt you list simply emotionally manipulates folks in the extreme short term not unlike the modern and postmodern church experiance. of course folks think their little 'red bull' religious experiance allows them to check off religion on the daily or weekly calendar and get back to reality.

"Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God--this is your spiritual act of worship."

so i stare at some obscura thingy and thing write a note on the wall of a shed - great! I'm done! Now back to my selfish ways! kinda like that dog or pig thing in scripture!

Actually ben it was 2 years ago we did it for sanctus1 not last year. At the time I wanted to try and do it as big as the grace one but they didn't have sheds then and it was going to be difficult to cmplete in 3 hours so we settled for the bird box size. We did do it first but Grace have done something bigger and better, in my humble opinion.
