Love this quote:

"A rhythm of life should be exactly that, a rhythm, not a full concerto with every instrument written up,but rather the background beat that keeps everything else in order, that calls things back on track when they deviate, that reminds us of the type of music we are wanting to play, or perhaps more accurately, what type of lifestyles we are wanting to lead."

I like how their six fundamentals are principles rather than rules. I get the sense that rules adapt as the community grows and changes while the commitment to these principles will remain constant. Very insightful of them.

Are there other online resources for new monastic communities? I would have loved to go to blah... but I'm on the wrong side of the ocean.

I think this approach is a growing trend away from Statements of Faith's, which I would suppose come across as confrontational to someone who is trying to journey toward Christ but not yet a Christ follower. Additionally a 'rhythm' has the component of 'doing' so I think it is a helpful corrective for the over-emphasis on belief statements. IMHO, a 'SOF' also tends to scare people away who are not Christian. Mosaic has something similar but we call them life practices:

Make community practical
Impact the urban landscape
Cultivate a culture of celebration
Learn to listen to God
Pursue friendships for eternity
Worship 24/7

worship tricks

  • series 1series 2series 3

where i come across creative ideas, liturgies, movies, music tracks, service outlines or anything that strikes me, i add them as worship tricks. i started these in april 2002 when i first began blogging and they have built up over the years so that i am now on the third series. this has proved a pretty popular feature of the blog.
