anthony gormley has a new exhibition, blind light, at the hayward gallery in london. one of the pieces in the exhibition is event horizon which is a series of lifesize iron figures on rooftops around waterloo bridge on both sides of the river. if you are near the hayward gallery, at times you may be able to see 10 or so figures. it's quite an amazing effect and makes you reflect on unseen presences and angels that are there but we can't see... i have added a gallery event horizon to flickr. as cms is nearby i expect i'll take some more to add to it.
anthony gormley also did the angel of the north and the figures on crosby beach. he is a fabulous artist. i haven't actually been to the exhibition in the hayward gallery yet but will do so at some point in the summer.

CROSBY beach, please Jonny. Corby is in deepest East Midlands and has a swimming pool but no tides. Crosby beach is where I played in the oil slicks as a kid and still often stand shoulder-to-shoulder with The Gormleys staring out towards Ireland contemplating.

The thing I really like about this piece of work by Gormley is watching people who suddenly discover the iron figures when walking across the bridge. I get the bus from Waterloo regularly into town and you see people looking and pointing to attract others' attention. You can go right up to the two figures on the bridge and then you become aware of the others watching you. The scale of it is amazing.
