i haven't blogged about the situation in gaza up until now - i simply don't know what to say. i just feel overwhelmed with sadness and anger. there are probably enough words out there anyway.
gordon lynch wrote a column in the guardian on how religion can help in the middle east that's worth a read
thinking about it i did read a post by ben edson that was almost exactly the sentiment i had in 1998 when i visited tekoa, the birthplace of the prophet amos. this tells the story of journeying down from tekoa that day and how poignant some of his words were. it's from the album backbone available on proost but here's this track free if you're interested - download justice (mp3)

Actually, given that this is happening in the cradle of our faith, I don't think there have been nearly enough words. But, as you say, it's just so horrific you simply can't form them in the right way.

Has anyone started to critique the notion of 'justice'? I think its time. Its not getting us anywhere.

I've been studying Tim Wright's book Simply Christian for Dan Wilt's Essentials Blue Vineyard course. In his book Wright talks about four echoes of God's voice that we hear that gives us a longing for Justice, Spirituality, Relationship and Beauty.
Both sides in the terrible conflict are longing for Justice as they see it over the other side but I think one of the saddest things has got to be that they are both worshipping the same God. Perhaps if they would just stop and listen to the voice of their God they would hear the pain they are causing Him and realise His longing for true Justice for all His children.
