we used to run a youth event in bath some years back where we had an alarm that went off if the speaker went overtime and a phantom flan flinger who would come in and pie the speaker - that worked pretty well!!!!

Sounds like a great idea! Apparently there are some pulpits with an egg-timer underneath the reading desk, but most preachers seem to ignore them.

I know some have used Paul's teaching when the guy fell asleep, fell from the gallery and died. I would only say two things about that:- 1) the "preaching" was interactive, with loads of comment from the church, 2) If you teach and send people to sleep, be sure you can raise the dead too!
