cms and the diocese of london have collaborated together to produce a new schoools resource for easter. this is partly inspired by the change of holidays meaning schools are still in action in holy week.
dennis morris, a photographer who toured with the sex pistols, was invited to give easter a visual makeover. the resulting images are pretty unusual and contemporary. they form part of a schools resource pack and the good news is you can download the images and pack free from cms! if you want a hard copy you can buy it from the cms shop.
congrats to ben bell, bob mayo, anita matthews, russell price and jenny baker who are the people i know who worked on it. i'm sure there were some others at the diocese end as well. the resource is aimed at 7-11 year olds. and as you'll work out if you download the resource, churches in the london diocese get sent a box of artefacts and so on to out on the workshops. you'll need to improvise if you are not in the london diocese...
if you use the images with young people (or anyone esle) i'd love to hear how they go down, how you use them and what connects or doesn't...
i'm making these images worship trick 25, series 3
had large copies of these pics on my office wall the last few weeks, they have provoked a great deal of discussion and had a really positive response.
Good job to all that were involved

This is a smashing resource, Jonny, and timely for those of us looking to communicate the Christian faith to young people in our neighbourhood. The majority have no meaningful contact with or grasp of the faith and this Easter, with the schools still in term, we have a great opportunity to present our faith creatively. Here at St Joseph the Worker we have three 2-hour schools workshops for Northolt primary schools fully booked in Holy Week, as well as other assemblies planned in our local schools. Youth group members have already been gawping at and commenting on the images! Well done and thank you to CMS and London Diocese!

Thanks for this. It looks really good but it is really for a larger group of kids than we have. Sorry but we had to laugh at the instructions on the workshop on the Last Supper. After breaking bread and giving out grape juice the instructions said to explain how communion is taken in your church and ensure that the children know that they haven’t actually had communion. But since the way we take communion in our church is quite similar to the way it is done in the workshop, for us this would be very difficult. I think the resource assumes that people will break bread the Anglican way and not the house church way! Oh well never mind.
