wonder strike

enjoyed our first chelsea game of the season yesterday (we only do 2 or 3 becuase of the price!). the last 15 minutes were sensational. arsenal looked like they might end chelsea's unbeaten run at the bridge but essien's wonder strike levelled it and chelsea then hit the woodwork twice in the last 5 minutes. one arsenal fan said in a text to me 'relief' after the final whistle which summed up the way the flow was towards the end.... but it was a great game in spite of drogba and lehman's laurel and hardy routine. there's a long way to go to the end of the season - but man united have created a gap of 8 points (5 if chelsea win on weds). i reckon we'll catch them but we'll see...

aaaaaargh!

so my predictions for the semi finals were spot on apart from england - aaaaaargh!

the agony again of penalties at which we are frankly awful...

was a joy to watch zidane at his masterful best in the france - brazil game but no consolation

here we go...

the world cup is really hotting up now. i am really looking forward to the quarter finals this weekend. i can't understand all the moaning about england. we won our group, we won the next game and here we are. what else matters?! ok so we haven't played the most beautiful football i admit but this where the action really gets going. we play portugal again - i remember the agony of being knocked out by penalties last time we played them (will we have to suffer the agony of penalties again?!). i think it will be another close game, but dare i say am feeling quite optimistic. i think the tournament is still wide open. can germany pull off a surprise to beat argentina? - i wouldn't put it past them. italy will likely beat ukraine. not sure that france have enough to beat brasil but they just might - they are on a roll. here we go...

the world cup starts this week - can't wait... and even the australian readers of the blog will have an interest for a change ;-)

champions!

chelsea secured a second premiership title in a row. it was made all the sweeter because victory came with a 3-0 defeat of man united - wish i had been there.

poor old kester ( a man united fan) had to suffer watching the third goal with me in a pub at lunch on the blah... leadership day

chelsea vs barcelona and onedotzero free night - looks like a good week ahead

am delighted to say i have got tickets for chelsea vs barcelona on weds night. can't wait... sadly i only got two tickets so harry has to stay behind (sorry harry!). the game last year was fantastic - i love the big european games...

if you are in london this week and want a good free event, the V and A museum have a late night event transvision on friday with onedotzero and VJs in galleries - it really looks like it should be good. it's my birthday the next day so a few of us are going along and then on to abbaye which is about 10 minutes walk away for belgian ales afterwards. if you are around see you there. the blurb on the web site says

victory at the bridge

my brother gave me an early birthday present of taking me to see chelsea v liverpool today which chelsea won 2-0 - convincingly in the end. after a good start liverpool just seemed to run out of ideas. the blues are still 15 points clear at the top of the premiership...

i've added a few pictures i took to flickr , but i love this one of my brother looking slightly pyscho after chelsea's first goal!

what a fantastic game of football yesterday between argentina and england. happily england won 3-2 in an amazing finish, but even if they hadn't turned it around at the end it still made me really look forward to the world cup this summer. wayne rooney is just fantastic for england...

congrats to the reds

congrats to the reds who won the european champions league final yesterday having been 3-0 down at half time. i confess that like many others i wrote liverpool off at half time saying that chelsea would have done a better job. but a sensational 6 minutes in the second half turned it round. dudek's antics in  goal in the penalty shoot out had us in hysterics - i expect we'll see plenty of impressions in comedy routines for the next year but it was certainly effective...

all you liverpool fans who follow the blog (seem to be more than chelsea fans) will be pleased to know i pretty much lost my voice cheering for them by the end. great to see an english team european champions. enjoy...

imaginative easter card

was fortunate enough to have got tickest for chelsea v barcelona on tues with joel and harry... what a game! chelsea through to the quarter finals.

surreal cup final viewing...

i searched long and hard to find if there was anywhere in denver i could get to see the cup final between chelsea and liverpool being televised. i eventually stumbled across an irish pub that was showing the england ireland rugby game in one half of the pub and the football in the other. due to the time difference the action started at 8am.  it was quite surreal to be surrounded by a crowd who emerged from somewhere sporting either liverpool or chelsea shirts.

i was beginning to wonder if i should have stayed in bed when liverpool scored after 43 seconds. but chelsea then dominated the game and finally managed to score after 80 minutes.  two more in extra time and a final score 3-2 to chelsea - up the blues!!!

man united 1 chelsea 2 - chelsea are in the carling cup final on feb 27 against liverpool! even though i was in a london pub there were more man united than chelsea fans - weird...

i'm going to be in denver that day - anyone know of any bars that might show the game?....

chelsea are 10 points clear at the top of the premiership - unbelievable! a fantastic 2-0 win combined with arsenal losing to bolton has sent chelsea clear. surely they won't slip up now?... we (me, h and j) went to chelsea on weds to see them draw 0-0 with man united - in this spectacular season we have been to two games and seen two 0-0 draws! i took this photo of a chelsea fan walking to the bridge...
